Hydroclay is a mineral substrate made of expanded clay balls, intended for creating drainage layers in terrariums.

Thanks to its porous and lightweight structure, it ensures effective drainage and limits water stagnation at ground level. Placed as a bottom layer, it creates a drainage zone separated from the main substrate, promoting more stable humidity management in tropical, semi-humid or planted terrariums.

In setups with a drainage layer, it is recommended to use a separation mesh such as Repti Mesh between the Hydroclay and the upper substrate. This separation prevents materials from mixing and maintains drainage efficiency over time.

Hydroclay can also serve as a water reservoir in bioactive setups, contributing to microclimate stability and healthy plant growth when the terrarium includes vegetation.

This product is not intended to be used as a main substrate. It is a technical base integrated into the soil structure.
